Each of the 12 panels with significant losses and flaking to the lacquer, with some long vertical cracks and visible traces of over-painting to areas of the lacquer. Approximately 26 areas of the lacquer with significant flaking and stabilised with restoration tape. Some further damage to the hinges and losses to lacquer to the feet, as visible in catalogue image.

恭祝大三老即封君玉翁池先生偕元配張老孺人八袠雙壽序

天地之氣，融之為川，結之為山，自人得之，為剛健為柔順。健順之德，合大之可以配道義塞兩間，次亦可以敦至性永天真。故人生大德，無渝于孝，而多歷年所，即其德之符也。

予讀書中秘時，已聞梅之鄉玉翁池先生，蚤以大耋期之矣。 翁自元祖伯懿公，以捷南宮發祥，代有聞人，亦多顯宦。至近祖瑞峰公，由明經選韶郡大司鐸，化雨在人，迄今歌思罔斁。乃父國樑公，舉庠為鄉飲大賓，生翁昆玉三，俱篤志嗜學，迭為師友，互相劘切。且翁素以孝行著聞，凡先意承志，視渺察微，不可殫述。迨母疾劇甚，禱於天，刲其股與肝，作羹以進，甫入口，母疾遂愈。人爭羨之曰：此至孝能回天者也。邑侯郭嘉其異，旌以「純孝格天」；上其事于撫軍佟，錫之匾曰「異孝殊倫」；上其事於臬司趙，錫之匾曰「苦孝格天」；督學使者孫亦獎以冠帶，榮及終身。非至孝所孚，能令各上憲褒嘉不置乎？

夫孝為百行之原。原本既得，則凡端律度嚴取與檢身寡過，足孝為州閭模楷，舉不問而知矣。方今聖天子以孝治天下，故太史上留芳以其事，奇其行，登之國乘，以誌不朽，則天錫爾禎祿爾康，方自今始也。有堅忍事實有同心，即今各享大齡，固其宜哉！

粵稽晉王氏世以巨孝，焯于三衢，累葉先大不衰。予觀 翁膝下五鳳齊飛，咸英英競爽，而叔子道政尤為士林翹楚，名冠一庠，蘭芽簇簇，現繞于輿几者十有六莖，不旋踵奮翮天池，扶搖萬里， 翁與孺人其為福享，還悠悠其未艾矣！茰月望之前後，屬 翁賢伉儷，懸弧懸恱晨。余夙慕其懿行，爰掇令德壽豈一言，為 翁夫婦賡非溢美也。夫是為序！
