This rare vase is in good condition with the exception of a clean 12.5cm., wide restored crescent-shaped break across the rim and minor glaze firing imperfections.

本品在磁州窰中屬較為罕見的一類。其高浮雕之刻花紋飾可追溯至河南省登封縣曲河窰。關 於此類磁州窰器的介紹，可見於蓑豊，《Freedom of Clay and Brush through Seven Centuries in Northern China: Tz'u-chou Type Wares, 960-1600 AD》，美國印第安納波利斯，1981年，頁42。儘管此類瓷瓶甚為罕見，但目前已知存世的有兩件相類形制及刻紋的作例。一例為美國華盛頓Freer Gallery of Art所藏，同上，頁42，圖14，並錄於《世界陶磁全集》，冊12，東京，1977年，頁110-11，圖版109；另一作例出自Charles B. Hoyt的收藏，現藏美國波士頓藝術博物館，載於〈Four Famous Masterpieces〉，《Oriental Ceramics. The World's Great Collections》，冊10，東京、紐約及三藩市，1980年，彩色圖版11。相比之下，前者作例應與本品的形制及紋飾較為相類。雖然其瓶身略加圓潤，且口沿沿壁處更為銳直，似曾有瓶蓋配搭，但二者的紋飾雕刻手法甚為相似，同以刻花卉卷葉紋為飾，刀鋒犀利，線條流暢，自然地形成了深淺分明、層次清晰的圖案紋飾。另一方面，Hoyt收藏瓶例雖同飾牡丹紋，但其飾紋風格與本品及Freer瓶例不同。再者，其瓶肩繪有雲紋，與本品肩上的刻紋風格迥異。此外，Hoyt瓶例與本品雖同為直頸、盤口，但其瓶頸較長且寬。

同屬此類的其它磁州窰器物在紋飾方面都帶相類飾紋風格，惟形制有別，通常器身呈拉伸的楕圓狀。可參考一件曾屬美國波士頓藝術博物館館藏的作例；此瓶後來被納入英國鐵路基金會收藏，並售於倫敦蘇富比1989年12月12日，編號81 （圖1）；後售於香港蘇富比1997年11月5日，編號1360。此件作例曾廣被出版著錄。其 中包括蓑豊，同上，圖17及Margaret Medley，〈Sgraffiato and Painting in Tz'u –chou Wares〉，《Decorative Techniques and Styles in Asian Ceramics》，Colloquies on Art and Archaeology in Asia，英國大衛德基金會，倫敦，1978年，頁66，圖版2a。另有一作例，同為楕圓腹並刻有相類紋飾，屬美國印第安納波利斯美術館館藏，錄於展覽圖錄《Beauty and Tranquility: The Eli Lilly Collection of Chinese Art》，印第安納波利斯，1983年，圖版67及頁28。明尼亞波利斯美術館館藏一作例錄於《Toki Zenshu》，冊13，東京，1966年，圖版4。

除了這些長頸盤口瓶外，同屬此類的磁州窰瓷器諸如執壺、小罐及瓷枕亦甚為罕見。如Brian McElney收藏一罐例，錄於《Inaugural Exhibition》，冊1，東亞藝術博物館，巴斯，1993年，編號56，亦可見扉頁及書皮。此外，關於執壺及瓷枕的作例，可見於蓑豊，同上，頁44-7及頁52-3。
