This finely painted vase is in very good condition with the exception of some minor and light glaze scratches.

此玉壺春瓶之紋飾設計可上溯明初，組合寓意吉祥，廣受文人雅士的青睞。翠竹歷來是文人、雅士、智者、賢達自喻之物。自魏晉以來，文人自比翠竹。它中空而自謙，搖曳而不折，四季長青，有虛懷若谷、謙謙君子之風範。蕉葉象徵博學廣識。相傳古時有一書生家境清貧，遂以蕉葉代紙，奮書己志。靈石則現骨氣，亦有金石之交之意。任歲月長流，秀岩總依然，此種乾磨萬擊還堅勁的氣質，充份展現其千古不朽的精神。
本品之雛本，可參考北京故宮博物院藏一傳永樂作例，錄於《故宮博物院藏文物珍品全集：青花釉裏紅（上）》，香港，2000年，圖版33。另有一傳宣德作例，同為北京故宮博物院藏，錄於葉佩蘭，《古瓷辨識》，台北，1994年，圖版83。清代玉壺春瓶形式和紋飾上雖啟蒙於明代先例，但畫工更顯精細，鈷藍料亦較為鮮豔。另外，清朝作例頸部較寬，器腹更為豐滿。
台北國立故宮博物院藏一乾隆作例，錄於《故宮藏瓷‧青花瓷》，冊II，香港，1968年，圖版12；北京故宮博物院藏一例，載於《中國陶瓷全集》，冊11，上海， 2000年，圖版12及香港蘇富比2010年10月8日，編號2773另一相類作例，可資比較。
清初作例包括北京故宮博物院藏一例，傳屬康熙年器，錄於《明初青花瓷》，北京，2002年，頁328，編號175。另一康熙瓶例，曾售於紐約佳士得2011年9月16日，編號1515。相類器物亦有見於雍正一朝，參考《故宮博物院藏明初青花瓷》，冊2，北京，2000年，頁354-5，圖版190及香港佳士得2011年11月30日，編號2937。
同可比較十八世紀末至十九世紀的相類瓶例，如香港蘇富比1997年11月5日，編號1471一嘉慶年並款玉壺春瓶。另有一道光作例，售於倫敦蘇富比1995年6月6日，編號235。 Weishaupt收藏一咸豐作例，曾售於阿姆斯特丹蘇富比1995年10月30日，編號4。同治時期瓶例，曾展於《關氏所藏晚清官窰瓷器》，香港藝術館，香港，1983年，編號91，後售於新加坡佳士得1997年3月30日，編號245。然而，從畫工及紋飾佈局來看，上述者與雍正、乾隆兩朝之作例可謂出入頗大，相差甚遠。
