carved recumbent around a beribboned brocade ball, its head turned backwards with its mouth clutching one end of the ribbon, the bushy eyebrows and mane defined in tight curls, the polished stone of a translucent pale celadon tone

The carving is in very good condition with the exception of minor nibbling along the edges and short (0.2cm) chisel marks near the rear haunches of the buddhist lion. The stone is of a more celadon tone compared to the catalogue illustration.
