描述

of rectangular form, the smoothly polished stone of pale celadon-white colour mottled with occasional icy inclusions and a few russet streaks, deftly and deeply carved in varied relief, one side with Bodhidharma fasting in a landscape retreat, the tonsured immortal cloaked in a loose robe partly falling open revealing its bare torso, seated below a lofty wutong tree clutching his gnarled staff with both hands while contemplating a streaming river and jagged hills in the distance, the reverse decorated with a pine tree growing among rocks beside a clear torrent, set on a later-carved spinach jade stand supported on scrolling feet and pierced with a quatrefoil apron

Condition

The upper right corner of the plaque is cantered and the lower right corner slightly polished down. There are some milky inculsions in the stone and a few scattered black specks. The surface is slightly pitted in areas. Otherwise the plaque is in good condition and the carving of good quality. The jade stand is likely to be associated and in good condition.
