Condition

There are three small natural fissures in the stone extending from the rim onto the interior of the bowl, the longest approx 1.3 cm. The outer edge of the footring and the mouthrim appear to be slightly polished, possibly to remove nicks.

Compare a similar bowl illustrated in Angus Forsyth and Brian McElney, Jades from China, The Museum of East Asian Art, Bath, England, 1994, cat.no. 340, where it is discussed that bowls of this fine quality could only have been produced during the 18th century when stone of this almost flawless quality was in abundant supply, and could well have been one of the bowls ordered from Suzhou by the imperial court in 1753.
