of compressed globular form with a small tapered foot and flanged rims, the domed cover carved through layers of rich red lacquer to an ochre ground with a large mallow blossom and attendant buds wreathed by dense curling foliage, the serrated leaves, petals and stamen finely defined with incisions, the underside similarly carved with leafy camellias, the interior and base lacquered in black

The box is in quite good condition with only slight retouching to the footrim and some minor relacquering on the interior.
