the smiling God of Longevity carved standing, his characteristic protruding forehead framed by a long finely combed beard, dressed in a flowing robe fastened by a tasseled sash picked out with florets, holding a staff in his left hand surrounded by a group of eight boys clambering on him, one standing in his right hand holding the ribbon tied to his chignon, another perched on his left shoulder, a third scaling the walking staff while clutching a branch of peaches, the five others at his feet engaged in various pursuits, the bamboo of rich reddish-brown colour with a smooth patina

Condition
The carving is overall in quite good condition. There are a few tiny worm holes on the surface. The end section of the staff the lady carries on her shoulder has chipped off. There are some age cracks to the bottom edge on the robe on the back, the longest 2 cm. There is some natural pitting to the apex of the figure's bulging head.
