描述

comprising a censer, a small vase and a seal paste box, the censer of compressed globular form supported on three short cabriole legs, set with a pair of mythical-beast handles suspending loose rings, carved in low relief with scrolling archaistic dragons chasing a pearl, below a flanged rim picked out with key-fret and a high domed cover rising to a coiled chilong finial, the pear-shaped vase supported on a splayed foot, carved around the body with foliate lotus below three mask handles at the rim suspending rings, its domed cover similarly carved with loose rings below a shou symbol finial, the oval seal paste box carved on the cover with a shou symbol wreathed by two interlocking phoenix, the watery translucent stone for all three vessels of bright evergreen tone mottled with darker inclusions and finished with a lustrous polish, wood stands

Condition

All three pieces are in very good condition. There is a 1.5 cm. line of inclusion to the rim of the censer's cover. The actual colours are quite close to the catalogue illustration.

The three-piece garniture comprising of a censer, vase and incense box (or seal paste box) is known as the ‘Three Accessories’ (sanshi). Such sets were common decorative items in the Qing court and were ornamented in various designs; see a chrysanthemum-petal carved set fashioned from white jade and a spinach-green jade set with archaistic designs, from the Qing Court collection and still in Beijing, illustrated in The Complete Collection of Treasures of the Palace Museum. Jadeware (III), Hong Kong, 1995, pls. 70 and 71; a white jade set carved with xi characters, from the De An Tang collection, included in the exhibition A Romance with Jade, Palace Museum, Beijing, 2004, cat. no. 100.
