the recumbent mythical animal carved with its head turned sharply to the right, with its legs neatly tucked beneath and bushy tail flicked over its scaly body, straddled by a smiling boy dressed in flowing robes holding a ruyi and a book, the translucent stone of a warm greenish-yellow colour with russet inclusions and a smooth patina

Condition

The carving is in an overall very good condition.

Qilin are traditionally believed to bring sons and thus a boy riding on a qilin represents the wish to bear a son.
