拍品資料及來源

The craftsman of this piece has skilfully taken full advantage of the high quality of the present stone to fashion an object that is complementary to its natural shape and hue. To minimise wastage he has included areas of the russet skin of the stone, which also enhances the aesthetic beauty of the piece. See a related carving in the collection of C.P. Lin, included in the exhibition Exquisite Jade Carving. Figures, Animals, Ornaments, The University Museum and Art Gallery, Hong Kong, 1996, cat. no. 122. Compare also a small figure of a mythical beast, similarly rendered with 'C'-shaped archaistic ears, flat cut mouth and bushy tail, included in the exhibition Chinese Jade Animals, Hong Kong Museum of Art, Hong Kong, 1996, cat. no. 141.
