來源

Johannas Saabye (acquired by the mid-1930s. Saabye was the co-founder of the Danish consulting engineers Saabye & Lerche, part of the Groupe Suedo-Danois consortium which constructed the Turkish Irmak-Filyos & Fevzipasa-Diyarbekir railway under Ataturk between 1927-35. It is likely the present work was a gift to Saabye for his role in this project); thence by descent to the present owner

Condition

The canvas has not been lined. There are some localised minor, fine lines of craquelure notably in some of the thicker pigments of the sky (visible in the catalogue illustration). There are no signs of retouching visible under ultraviolet light. This painting is in very good original condition. Held in a simple dark-gold painted frame with a nameplate. The colours in the catalogue illustration are overall accurate, although the blues in the sea are lighter and more luminous and the varnish slightly more yellowed in the sky.
