The canvas has not been lined. There is a circa 5cm vertical restoration in the sky in the upper-left quadrant which does not fluoresce under ultraviolet light. Ultraviolet light reveals some scattered minor strokes of retouching predominantly in the sky to the left and above the sails, and some of the yellow-orange pigments in the sky fluoresce but these would certainly appear to be the artist's original and not retouching. This painting is in very good condition and ready to hang, and its appearance could be further enhanced if desired with a light surface clean.
Held in a black frame with a gilt inner accent.
The colours in the catalogue illustration are overall an accurate representation of the painting, although there is slightly less red in the sky in reality.
