Condition
The canvas has not been lined. There are faint horizontal stretcher marks corresponding to the upper and lower stretcher bars. Ultraviolet light reveals some scattered minor signs of retouching, notably to a circa 2 by 2cm restoration in the snow in the lower left quadrant (patched on the reverse), scattered spots in the snow in the lower right near (but not through) the signature, and some further scattered spots and small strokes in the background. This painting is in good condition and ready to hang.
Held in a simple gilt frame.
The catalogue illustration is overall an accurate representation of the painting, although the colours are somewhat deeper in reality.
