The canvas has been relined. There are some scattered minor spots of frame rubbing at the framing edges. Ultraviolet light reveals some signs of retouching, notably two diagonal parallel lines (approximately 20 and 42cm) of restoration through the walls and opening of the door (the second line also through the figure's head and the white chair), an approximately 5 by 3cm area in the lower part of the white open door, and scattered spots predominately near the right edge. Under normal light the appearance of the work is good and it is ready to hang. Held in a simple coved gilt frame. The whites and greys are cleaner, and the colours overall have less of a yellow-gold tinge, than in the catalogue illustration.
