Condition
The canvas has not been lined. As just visible in the catalogue illustration, there are some localised fine lines of paint shrinkage in the dark pigments in the background and the figures' dresses. Under ultraviolet light the varnish fluoresces quite opaquely, obscuring a clear reading of the surface, however there are some minor scattered signs of retouching, notably some strokes below the window to the right of the seated lady, in the shadowed pigments of the young girl's face and in the background to the left of her hair, some strokes in the wooden stand in the lower left corner, and scattered tiny spots in the background. This painting is in good condition and is ready to hang.
Held in an elaborate gilt frame, with floral motifs.
The colours are deeper and somewhat less bright in reality than in the catalogue illustration.
