Nosadella is one of the most original and idiosyncratic painters of the 16th century. Despite his eccentric pictorial style, he remains a rather enigmatic figure. His date and place of birth is unknown but by 1549 he was registered as a painter in Bologna. He appears to have been principally active as a fresco-painter, although very few of the his documented works in this medium have survived. His biographer Malvasia only refers to two panel paintings by the artist, a Madonna and Child with the Blessed Raniero and other saints in the Oratorio di Santa Maria della Vita, Bologna and a Circumcision in Santa Maria Maggiore, Bologna.
