Acquired in the 1970s.

Condition

The canvas has been relatively recently lined. The painting is on good overall condition. There is a small restored tear lowe rleft and a small damage ot hte sitter's upper lip. There is some scuffing to the vertical margins and some localised areas of prior flaking in the background which now however appear stable. Sold unframed.

The sitter is Giuseppa Marianna Arconati, daughter of Giuseppe Maria Arconati (died 1715).  The pair to the present painting, depicting Giuseppa Marianna’s sister, Anna Giuseppa Arconati was sold Munich, Hampel, 11 April 2013, lot 581 where incorrectly attributed to Pier Francesco Cittadini. Both sisters were nuns and Anna went on to become prioress of S. Agostino in Milan at the beginning of the 18th century.
