Neither work has been lined. Under ultraviolet light scattered spots and fine strokes of retouching are visible in both works, chiefly in parts of the male figure's clothing, and there are areas where the old varnish fluoresces opaquely in both works (chiefly in areas of the dark pigments). A pattern of hairline craquelure is visible overall in both works. The paintings are in good overall condition, and ready to hang.
