Thomas Cecil Howitt was a prominent provincial architect of public buildings in the 20th century, with his greatest legacies found in his home city of Nottingham. The neo-Baroque New Exchange, now known as the Nottingham Council House, is perhaps one of his most iconic buildings, constructed between 1927 and 1929.

Cyril Arthur Farey was a highly talented draughtsman, commissioned by numerous British architects of the time who were seeking a stylistic dressing for their competition designs.
