Condition

The condition of the marble is good with dirt and wear to the surface consistent with age. There is some veining, consistent with the material and a few naturally occurring inclusions. There is a lacuna to the back of the woman's right lower leg. There are some minor scuffs and abrasions to the surface, such as to the right of the amphora.

拍品資料及來源

Son of the sculptor Edme Dumont (1722-1775), Jacques-Edme was admitted to the École des Élèves Protégés in 1777 and won the Prix de Rome in 1788. The present marble is among the few sculptures made by the young artist while working under the direction of Augustin Pajou (1730-1809). It combines the elegance of Pajou's work with a technical precision typical of Dumont. The graceful silhouette of the body and the elongated proportions in comparison to the size of the face resemble the female nudes of Augustin Pajou and Etienne Maurice Falconet (1716-1791).
