Tal R’s works exhibit a virtuos painterly technique, combining exuberance of style with intriguing subject matter to create a corpus of dazzling imagination and scope. The artist’s works have been exhibited at an international level, featuring in major exhibitions at the Bonnefanten Museum in Maastricht, Camden Arts Centre in London and at the Kunsthalle Mannheim. Depicting a row of amorphous figures within the surreal setting of a mushroom forest, Sisters of Kolbojnik epitomises Tal R’s distinctive conjunction of an ostensibly naïve creative style with complex cultural references, as well as acknowledging the artist’s Israeli heritage through the use of Hebrew within the title: ‘Kolbojnik’ translates literally as ‘leftovers,’ signifying Tal R’s witty appropriation of childhood associations within an adult context. Epitomical of Tal R's most achieved and critically acclaimed paintings, Sisters of Kolbojnik is divided into three horizontal bands which are used by the artist as an optical stabilizer to the pictorial format; a technique also used by Peter Doig in his early works.
