Condition

Colour: The colours in the catalogue illustration are fairly accurate, although the overall tonality is slightly brighter and more vibrant in the original. Condition: This work is in very good condition. There is evidence of very minor wear to all four corners and in a few places along the horizontal edges. Examination under ultra-violet light reveals a few isolated spots that fluoresce darker but do not appear to be retouching.

“Chu Teh-Chun paints a country whose existence is found only in his paintings, a country both imaginary and real at the same time, formed from sensations many times experienced in the course of his life, bound to his memories of China which in time has become the space in his memory… In fact Chu Teh-Chun sometimes finds his inspiration in ancient Chinese poems of which he is an avid reader and which, he says, provide him with an image” Pierre Cabane, Chu Teh-Chun, 2000, p. 8 and 20.
