A similar bowl in the Museum of Fine Arts Boston with the same figural supports and applied roundels but covered with a green glaze, is illustrated in the Hoyt Collection, Catalogue, vol I, pl. 95 and in William Watson, Tang and Liao Ceramics, London, 1984, pl 282, p. 237 where the author writes that "the form of the container is paralleled in Liao bowls described as spittoons, here adapted as a version of the Buddhist offering bowls made in Chinese territory in white ware and celadon."
