There is a small chip on the upper neck-rim which has been slightly polished, but not obtrusive. There is a small chip to the outer footrim; two small and several even smaller chips to one circular panel frame and two small chips and a longer nibbled section on the reverse. There is one area of enamel flake and wear to the enamels in general. The enamels have a fine network of cracklures. There is some ink stains on the base and on part of the bottle. The bottle has a slight lean.

The present bottle is unique for its distinctive shape and rare carved relief design. The sides are painted with the Eight Trigrams, with the trigram qian, a series of there unbroken lines, appearing at the top of one of the sides. Whilst it was adopted by the Qianlong emperor as a personal seal to stand for the Qian of his reign title, its prominence here at the beginning of the series reflects the most popular arrangement of the Eight Trigrams.
