the grey stone with traces of white and ochre layers, carved in soft rounded volumes, slightly truncated around the lower right edge while preserving part of the neck, the serene face portrayed with a meditative expression, with slender hooded eyes below arched brows, a straight nose and pursed lips, all framed by voluminous hair defined with incisions covering the ears and swept up in a high topknot, stepped wood stand

Condition
The upper section of the head fragment and lower right edge are originally truncated as visible on the photo. There is wear to the flesh-toned / ochre layer covering the face, consistent with age. Apart from this there is no visible recent restoration or chips.

此供養人頭像面部雕工精細，略著世俗美感，類例見於河南洛陽龍門石窟。如一頭像例，錄於《Chinese, Korean and Japanese Sculpture in the Avery Brundage Collection》，東京，1974年，圖版110。另一例，載於《龍門流散雕像集》，上海，1993年，圖版72、77及79。亦見一例，售於紐約蘇富比2012年9月12日，編號118，屬 Arthur Wiesenberger 舊藏，曾於1960年代至1973年借展紐約大都會藝術博物館。
