The canvas has been relined. Ultraviolet light reveals some strokes of retouching in the sky, notably strokes in a 'T' shape circa 4 by 7cm to the left, and some further scattered spots; ultraviolet light does not appear to reveal any notable retouching in the rest of the composition. The overall appearance of the painting is good and it is ready to hang. Held in a decorative frame with a cloth-covered inner slip.

約1900年作

阿芒·吉約曼是法國印象派先驅畫家，亦是版畫家。他出生於巴黎的工人階級家庭，白天是公務員，晚上習畫。他在1861年進入巴黎瑞士藝術學院習畫之前，曾在法國鐵路局工作。他在藝術學院認識塞尚和畢沙羅，並與他們維持終生的友誼。塞尚更根據吉約曼筆下的塞納河駁船而作出其第一件蝕刻版畫。吉約曼於1863年參加「被拒作品沙龍展」，並在1874年、1877年、1880至1882年與1886年參與了印象派畫展。

1886年，吉約曼與文森·梵谷結為好友，梵谷的弟弟西奧·梵谷更為他賣出數幅畫作。1891年，他買彩票贏得十萬法郎，讓他可以辭去政府工作，專心作畫。吉約曼的作品以強烈色彩著稱，畫作見於世界各大博物館。他筆下的巴黎與普羅旺斯美景則最為人熟知。
