吳冠中與朱德群相交多年，曾經如此評論他的作品：「你的畫是遠看西洋畫，近看是中國畫。中國畫給人的感覺像很細的紗、絹，把麻布練成絹的感覺。你看這好像是玉—打開那塊玉，還沒有拉出來、拉不出來，玉藏在石頭裡面的感覺，就是這樣子。」《翡翠華光》以強烈的線條與色彩對比構圖，以寬闊的排筆從上而下反覆塗抹，形成支撐畫面的縱軸，再以數款較細的圓鋒畫筆增添明亮的翠藍、明黃、澄碧諸色，動勢騰躍向上，在彼此交碰中迸發生氣，有如珠玉成輝，悅目動人。
