- gilt bronze cloisonne enamel
of square form, the tapering sides divided into three horizontal sections by two raised gilt ribs chased with floral scrolls, flanked by pairs of C-shaped handles, the body decorated with stylised shou characters flanked by pairs of bats alternating with shou character roundels, all reserved on a T-diaper ground, the two removable flat covers similarly decorated with one section pierced with two cash coins, the interior lined with wood and pewter

Condition
This is generally in good conditon, but there are two small areas of repair to two Shou characters to one cover (2cm by 2cm adn 1cm by 1cm). There is a small area of repair to one corner of the other cover 3.5cm by 8mm and another small area to the other side 4cm by 5mm.

本品堂皇大氣，畫工及製作盡皆出類拔萃，珍稀至極。此類冰箱以橫板分層，兩側附有手柄，蓋及器身以合頁式連接，蓋頂開二古錢紋孔。北京故宮博物館藏有數件作例，其中一例與本品同以鮮藍琺琅作地，然上飾西番蓮朵，錄於《故宮博物院藏文物珍品全集：金屬胎琺瑯器》，香港，2002年，圖版129。另一作例，先後為C. Ruxton 及 Audrey B. Love故藏，2004年10月20日售於紐約佳士得，編號601。同可比較紐約佳士得一對作例，，售於2005年9月20日，編號123。後者拍賣資料指出，十八世紀非御用宮廷冰箱皆以純銅作胎，箱內掛錫裏，故本品原應設置於皇帝之私人宮殿。
冰箱乃宮廷必需設備，兼具實用及裝飾功能。每逢炎夏，冰箱内可存放各式食飲，涼氣亦可經蓋頂二孔透發以降室溫。據Craig Clunas，《中國家具》，倫敦，1988年，頁100 所述，古代宮廷侍從先於冬季將冰塊運至地窖，至炎熱時節將之分切成小片放置冰箱內。參見倫敦維多利亞與艾伯特博物館藏一同類木胎作例，箱內掛鉛裏，見同上圖版89。
