Condition
This print, trimmed to the image and on single-weight paper with a surface sheen, is in generally good to very good condition. The corners are bumped and creased. There is minor edge wear with 3 small attendant losses along the upper and left edges. In raking light, the following are visible: a one-and-1/2-inch handling crease that appears to break the emulsion along the right edge; and a few small, sharp creases overall.
The reverse of the print is heavily annotated in unidentified hands in pencil, including: an alternate title, 'Santa Fe Chief'; 'P-3;' 'Feb - 23;' and 'USE ALL OF PHOTO (underlined).' The reduction notations '2-7/8' and '3-1/16' are in blue pencil.
In addition to the print of this image in the Center for Creative Photography, Tucson, Conger locates prints in the following institutional collections: Harrison Memorial Library, Carmel; Art Institute of Chicago; Huntington Library, San Marino; The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, Kansas City; The Oakland Museum; San Francisco Museum of Modern Art; and Special Collections, University of California, Santa Cruz, this last a Project Print.
