拍品資料及來源

Kircher's great study of the subterranean world in which he writes about the origin of continents, oceans and mountains, the hydrologic cycle of water, the movement of currents, erosion, fossils, mineralogy and metallurgy. Other topics include giants, spontaneous generation, perpetual motion, astrology and alchemy. Several articles relate to America.

This copy is the second edition of the work, which is seemingly rare, and much rarer than the first and third editions (1665 and 1678). It does not contain the portraits of the author and dedicatee found in the first edition.
