La forza del destino, composed for St Petersburg in 1862, was revised for La Scala and performed under Verdi's direction on 27 February 1869. This quotation is from the Act II finale which is led by Padre Guardiano, Melitone and the chorus. The present manuscript contains Leonora's verse, with a different melody and accompanied in the opera by a harp. For the fifth and sixth bars, Verdi also includes the sustained bass notes from the bassoon part.
