Ruby and diamond necklace, 19th Century

Designed as a series of cluster and foliate motifs, each set at the centre with oval and cushion-shaped rubies, the central motif set with a foiled back garnet, highlighted with circular-cut and rose diamonds, length approximately 410mm, each element detachable and could be worn as seperate jewels or as a tiara, tiara fittings deficient, the jewels date from the early 19th century to the end of the 19th century.

Rubies medium to dark purplish red, typical inclusions visible to naked eye and under magnification, some stones with surface reaching fissures. Foiled garnet light orangish red, inclusions visible under magnification. Estimated total diamond weight approximately 28.00 - 33.00 carats, estimated colour H-J, estimated clarity VS-SI, some stones I. Jewels with screw thread fittings, two smaller clusters with pendant loops allowing to be suspended from larger clusters. Fittings secure, wire added to some links to prevent jewels from detaching, removable. Scratches to mount consistent with age and wear. In good condition.
