Swivel set at the centre with an oval amethyst, within a surmount chased and with repoussé work scrolls, decorated with polychrome enamel floral and foliate motifs, accompanied by a handwritten note, For dear Edie from Mary R. Xmas 1931.

Condition

Amethyst a medium purple measuring approximately 31 x 26 x 15mm, few scratches to surface, lightly abraded facet junctions and nicks. Small losses to enamel. Accompanied by case. Note slightly curled at edges and with a pin hole where it has been mounted on inside of case. In good condition.

The handwritten note that accompanies this jewel is dedicated to Edith Lady Londonderry, known affectionately as Edie by close family and friends.  The jewel was a Christmas present to her close friend Lady Londonderry, from Queen Mary, consort to King George V.
