In this exuberant painting the mounted ruler, identified as Raja Goman Singh (r. 1766-71), shows off his skill at controlling an enraged elephant goaded into fury by attendants who prod the beast with their spears. The raja dexterously maintains his grip on the beast despite its violent gyrations.

Condition
Good overall condition. Red folio borders have been cropped, a slice of the border remains at the top. A few minor spots and pressure marks to yellow ground, none of which are readily noticeable. The colors are slightly lighter and brighter in reality. This lot is exhibited in a temporary frame.
