The floral lattice pattern of this carpet is termed the "Herat-flower design," as it reflects the integration of Persian and Islamic cultural influences in the oases towns of Eastern or Chinese Turkestan, see Bidder, Hans, Carpets from Eastern Turkestan, Tübingen, 1969, p. 74. For related examples, please refer to Bidder, ibid, figs., 27a, 27b, 29, pls. XVI, and XVII; and for a carpet that also shares a similar border to the present lot see Schürmann, Ulrich, Central-Asian Rugs, Frankfurt am Main, 1969, pl. 72.
