〈馮〉小蝶有道索畫數載，懶無以應，今夕顧談甚洽，遂以此扇為贈，殊不值一笑耳。戊子（1948）夏四月，晉陵馮超然。
〈馬〉錄漁洋先生（秋柳〉詩。時戊子（1948）九秋，馬衡。
鈐印：〈馮〉「馮超然」、「滌舸畫匠」、「嵩山草堂」。
〈馬〉「馬衡叔平」。
上款：「小蝶」為陳定山（1896-1989），原名蘧，字小蝶，四十歲後更名定山。書畫、詩文皆擅，美術史論家、實業家。為滬上畫壇最為活躍人物之一，三、四十年代曾參與創辦中國畫會、中國畫苑畫廊，與張大千、吳湖帆、馮超然等交往頻密。

This evening after some discussion I think I have it, and this fan is to commemorate it, and though unusual, it is hardly worth a laugh.
