Thatched roofs bend with the mountains. Broken dams join the long forests. The tall trees have begun to shed their leaves. The freezing cicadas occasionally sound. The recluse opens his bamboo window, and the boy-servant brings in his jade zither. Suddenly he realizes that beyond the misty pond, the Xiao and Xiang Rivers are already deep in autumn. The cold waters are not still. In the mountains' reflections emerge tiny ripples. The bright moon shines over the water plants. The autumn winds lift the tree moss. Smoke has yet to rise from the fisherman¿s house. Late at night the zither-player passes by it. He asks Tao Zhengshi, How is the sound of the stringless zither?
Two days after Chunfen in the jiaxu year (1814), after Tang Ziwei's (Tang Yin, 1470-1523) brush idea, painted by Shumei Qian Du of Quantang at the Bitong Temple.
