carved from a single boulder, skillfully utilizing the stone's rhythmic shape to create a powerful design of five writhing five-clawed dragons amid swirling clouds, an inclusion in the stone artfully used to form a 'flaming pearl' that appears to glow in the interior of the well-hollowed receptacle, supported on a base carved as radiating waves with four mountains at the edges, the clever use of the yellowish-green stone's brown skin and opaque beige inclusions heightening the depth and three-dimensional effect of the design

製作是件玉筆洗所需之玉料體大珍罕，然玉匠以巧心慎用此珍稀玉材，運用玉皮深淺與石間異色構建其造形層次深度。遊龍祥雲之設計亦貼合其玉料原形，卻不為其所限。因而此玉洗設計生動逼真，熱鬧喧騰。
五龍於舊時中國象徵五方，意指四向與中央。因此五龍之描繪代表寰宇之境，目光所及皆為其中。五龍亦代表五行，木火土金水，五形乃萬物之源，也象徵天下眾生。此外，山石矗立於浪海之間常見於清代朝服，意味壽如山高，福若海廣，並代表大地、海洋，及至全輿。古人之世界觀乃由四大洋、五大陸組成。而別有興味的是此件拍品上作四山，孟子曾述「中天下而立，定四海之民，君子樂之，所性不存焉。」而此器可想而見，取君為中土，以其之勢制衡四方之意，這也回歸到五行之原義。
以其含意觀之，製作此洗之玉料如此體碩，應為宮廷所造。皇帝始有造此重器之能，且其寓意合宜，以君治四方，為天下之主，宇宙之中心。
Alan and Simone Hartman收藏曾有一白玉帶皮龍紋筆洗，上做三龍，造於乾隆年間，於香港佳士得2007年11月27日售出 (拍品編號 1504)。
