well-cast and portrayed seated in dhyanasana with right hand in bhumisparsamudra, the left in dhyanamudra, clothed in a loose-fitting robe falling in elegant folds leaving the right shoulder bare, the serene face with downcast eyes and gentle smile flanked by pendulous ears with pierced lobes, the head and domed ushnisha covered with tight curls and surmounted by an ovoid jewel, all supported on a double lotus pedestal with beaded edges, inscribed Da Ming Yongle nian shi

Condition
Wear to gilding with some surface abrasion overall, most noticebale on the right arm. The middle finger of the right hand is broken. There are dents to the small of the back, back of the lotus pedestal, the back lower edge, the left chest and shoulder. The back of the head, nose, front hairline and the tips of some of the lotus petals on the base are flattened. The base plate is missing.

15世紀前半，明永樂皇帝年間所鑄造落款的鎏金佛像，極度精緻且展現了高超技藝，深為人所推崇。由落款可知，此件為北京宮廷作坊依皇命所造。
Speelman舊藏此批佛像之另一件佳品，售於香港蘇富比2006年10月7日，拍品編號808。雖體型較此件大，然不論比例、長袍的設計、面部神情及落款方式，皆十分類同。兩者皆坐於束腰仰覆式蓮花座，雙層蓮花上下緣飾兩圈連珠紋，為宮廷御製典型風格。除雙眉間未見圓形標誌外，此件可說是Speelman佛像的縮小翻版。
一件與此件同大小永樂作例，售於香港佳士得2007年5月29日，拍品編號1436。另有一件稍小作例，亦為永樂有款作例，原Tuyet Nguyet及Stephen Markbreiter舊藏，售於香港蘇富比2010年10月7日，拍品編號2142。尚有一件大小相仿永樂作例，現藏北京故宮博物院，錄於《故宮博物院50年入藏文物精品集》，北京，1999年，頁126，品號163。另有一稍大例子，售於香港蘇富比2011年10月5日，拍品編號2127。釋迦牟尼佛以此坐式入定悟道，右手結觸地降魔印，地神於是顯現，出來證明釋迦件尼已經修成佛。
