portrayed standing barefoot on a circular tapering base, both hands held in abhayamudra, clad in loose robes falling in crisply cast folds that flare outwards, his sharp features framed by long ears and wavy hair that covers his ushnisha, the back with rectangular cavity and two pierced tabs, wood stand and box (3)

北魏是佛教鼎盛發展的時期，長江以北地區皆奉為國教，佛教雕像成為人民心目中永久的依託，此神像便是該時期所留下最精美的作例之一。它是一群鑄造極美的雕像中之一件，此類群像大多由火焰形光輪環繞，花樣繁複並為寺廟或祭壇的中心神像。由於受到富人階級的大量贊助，此時期的雕像及祭壇奢華富麗，反映人們相信透過神像的設立能夠累積功德。形體較小者多為特殊住宅或旅行之用所製。
可參考另一立姿佛像，亦藏於紐約大都會藝術博物館，錄於前述著作，圖版XXXXIII；及一件與此件大小相仿之例，藏於上海博物館，曾展於「中國千年佛像展(Estátuas Budistas Milenárias da China)」，Galeria de Exposições Temporárias do Leal Senado，澳門，1995年，圖錄品號6；第三件現藏國立故宮博物院，台北，曾展於《金銅佛造像》特展，國立故宮博物院，台北，1987，頁160。亦可比較一件6世紀較大銅佛像，.Stephen Junkunc III舊藏，售於紐約佳士得2004年3月24日，拍品編號72；及一件較小作例，售於倫敦佳士得1986年6月16日，拍品編號25。
此件佛像臉部神情祥和靜謐，展露無盡慈悲與溫柔，飄逸的長袍飛揚成鋸齒狀，里衣繫於前胸，皆為此期之特色。另一著名作例為西元524年銅鎏金佛像，現藏紐約大都會藝術博物館，錄於Alan Priest著《Chinese Sculpture in the Metropolitan Museum of Art》，紐約，1944年，圖版XXIX。另一相關立像鑄有西元520年銘文，為Avery Brundage珍藏，錄於《Chinese, Korean and Japanese Sculpture in the Avery Brundage Collection》，舊金山，1974年，頁82，圖版29；書中另提及兩件，西元518年的一件銅像，則存於吉美博物館，巴黎，另一件西元536年作例，現藏賓州大學博物館。
