with rounded sides rising to a flared rim, finely carved in relief with six ruyi lappets enclosing smaller ruyi heads, interspersed with smaller bifurcated lappets, above a border of petal lappets encircling the splayed foot with an incised key-fret border just below the mouthrim, all covered with a translucent misty-green glaze pooling in the recessed areas elegantly highlighting the carved design, six-character mark in underglaze-blue within concentric rings

Condition
There is a 1 1/2 inch (4cm) bruise crack to the footring, and a number of glaze cracks on the wall of the inner foot ring. There is some unevenness to the glaze on the rim which can be felt to the touch. The glaze is of a rich, even color.

Bowls of this size and pattern are rare. One of slightly smaller size and identical decoration from the Charles B. Hoyt Collection is illustrated in the Charles B. Hoyt Collection, Memorial Exhibition, Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, 1952, p. 111, cat. no. 440. Another of similar size and decoration was sold in our Hong Kong rooms, 28th November 1978, lot 197; and another bowl was sold at Christie's Hong Kong, 30th May 2006, lot 1346.
