Collection of Dr. Richard and Mrs. Mary Eckhardt, acquired in Japan between 1947-1952 while Dr. Eckhardt was serving as a surgeon in the United States Army and thence by descent.

Condition

Left: There is an approximately 20 in. (50 cm.) long vertical stain in the middle of the painting, and there is an approximately 5 in. (12.5 cm.) horizontal scatch in the lower half of the painting. There are also four burn holes down the left edge of the painting. Right: There is a 14 1/2 in. (36.8 cm.) diagonal scratch along the top of the painting and another 7 in. (17.7 m.) scratch to the middle of the painting. Both paintings have been cut down. There are small areas of scattered loss and touch-ups. There are a number of creases and loss of pigment along the crease lines and overall surface wear from being rolled and unrolled before being mounted.
