拍品資料及來源

Interrupted displays the violent reflections of the traumatic, ruthless and inappeasable world of adults on the body and soul of children as depicted from the perspective of sought-after graphic artist Ergen. The grotesque imagery in her work was inspired by a traumatic event she has read about two years ago about the abuse of children by their parents and adults. The cut off hands symbolise these abused children in despair, depicted with striking and constrasting colours like red, white and light green. The artist also reflects back on her experience as a child growing up in Turkey where a child is expected to raise his finger in primary school to ask for permission to speak and the absence of fingers is a metaphor of the unvoiced and unknown voice of the suppressed children around the world. Trained as a graphic designer, Ergen's dramatic compositions are executed with outstanding talent and detail.
