This sculpture is in very good condition. It is one of 8 sculptures painted white by Smith (one in 1955, the remainder from 1962-1963), and it is one of five sculptures that were stripped by the executor following the artist's death. As this was not the artist's intent, they have all been repainted under the supervision of the artist's estate and according to the artist's record of paint. If desired, the artist also intended that these works could be outside, just as he displayed them in the fields of Bolton Landing. As with other painted outdoor sculptures, it is common to repaint the work from time to time following recommendations from the artist's estate. The current work has been outdoors so has been recently cleaned. There are also some minute scattered pinpoints of developing rust, primarily above the bottom edges and between the bottom 4 cut-out circles.
