In excellent general condition; minor wear to glaze to base, particularly around the spur marks; minor firing imperfections, inluding an iron spot to inside of neck.

中國工藝慕古追遠之風，始於宋，臻於清。本品器型承唐代痰盂，其時為宮廷所用，除瓷品外亦見於玻璃及銀製器。
敬畏堂為浙江省寧波市慈谿人李笏（字端人，號竹村）之室名。劉明倩曾於其展覽圖錄《Rare Marks on Chinese Ceramics》，維多利亞與艾伯特博物館，倫敦，1998年，頁114，引述汪慶正之說，指敬畏堂堂號應屬滿族高官阿格敦布之物。據1906年清官陳瀏於《陶雅》所載，敬畏堂所製器具多系豆青，載於同上展覽圖錄，惟缺實證。倫敦大英博物館大衛德收藏有二作列，皆為青釉瓷，口沿處呈褐色，落敬畏堂款，當中青釉盌，載於同上展覽圖錄，編號47，而青釉盤則錄於Margaret Medley，《Illustrated Catalogue of Ming and Qing Monochrome Wares》，倫敦，1989年，編號 A568。另有一蓋盌作例，見售於香港佳士得2007年5月29日，編號1545。然而，並非所有署敬畏堂款之瓷器俱為青釉瓷，由於堂號歷年久遠，綿延數代，釉色至後期或多添品種，作例見一仿銅醬釉瓶，錄於《清代瓷器賞鑑》，上海，1994年，圖版151。另有藍釉盃一對，曾售於紐約佳士得2003年9月18日，編號355。
