of rectangular section, the straight sides soberly carved with a thin raised band around the rim, the top of the hinged cover accented by ruyi-shaped brass corners above plain rectangular mounts along the vertical edges, the front embellished with a circular lock plate set with a ruyi-head clasp, the sides with two loop handles suspended from circular roundels, the wood of warm reddish-brown colour with a dense typical grain and lustrous patina

The box is in very good condition with only some expected minor nicks along the rim edges and light scratches and stains in areas.
