When he was just a youth, Pratt visited and worked for a summer at the Argentia base that the United States had established on the west coast of the Avalon Peninsula during the Second World War.

This painting is a relatively recent work, sharp and compelling. The foundations or elements of what used to be, are like the ruins of a civilization that is no more, except that in Pratt's memory they remain fresh, alive, and preserved in the bright light of his memory. The painting is modest in size, but its tight and focused concentration gives it a power that far exceeds its size. The Ruins of Fort MacAndrew is a painting that will wear well over time, since it is, really, about time itself, and memory.
