拍品資料及來源

This ornate bridle cover is completely covered with parcel-gilt metal-thread relief embroidery. Whilst most Ottoman caparisons were intended to be laid over the saddle of the horse, this is a covering the chest. The employment of tombak mounts as a decorative element is also observed in contemporary saddles, bridles, headstalls, nose-bands, reins and chest-bands. Two caparisons of similar workmanship, but slightly earlier in date, are found in the Staatlische Kunstsammlungen, Dresden (inv.nos. L 198 and L199), see Schuckelt 2010, pp.254-5, nos.223 and 225.
