拍品資料及來源

Under Burji Mamluk patronage, particularly during the reign of Sultan Qa'itbay (r.1468-96), the skyline of Cairo was further enriched with newly constructed domes and minarets, whilst the specialist ateliers of the city worked to produce architectural fittings of matchless craftsmanship.

Cairene woodworkers continued to favour geometrical designs and exploited their bold symmetry and formal strength. This panel, which most likely came from a door or window, is assembled like a mosaic using individually carved segments. Such a technique requires patience and skill as well as knowledge of geometry and mathematics.
